The Destination We Are Building Towards
"To be the foremost global authority and most trusted professional body in the fields of leadership and governance — recognized for cultivating principled, competent, and transformative leaders who drive sustainable development, institutional excellence, and societal progress across all sectors and geographies."
Interpreting Our Vision
The vision statement articulates CILG's highest aspiration — to be the foremost global authority in governance and leadership. This is a standard against which we hold ourselves rigorously accountable. It means that our qualification framework must be benchmarked against the world's best; that our research must advance the frontier of professional knowledge; that our membership community must uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct; and that our voice in governance policy must be informed by evidence and respected by regulators and institutions.
The reference to all sectors and geographies reflects CILG's conviction that the governance profession's challenges are universal, transcending industry, sector, and national context. We envision a world where principled leadership and sound governance are the hallmarks of every institution, from the corporate boardroom to the public sector, from startups to multinational enterprises.
How We Create Value Every Day
"To advance the theory and practice of ethical leadership and sound governance through world-class professional education, rigorous credentialing, impactful research, and evidence-based advocacy — empowering individuals, organisations, and institutions to operate with excellence, accountability, transparency, and purpose."
Interpreting Our Mission
The mission statement identifies four mechanisms through which CILG fulfils its purpose. Together, these four pillars constitute our complete institutional contribution to the governance profession and to society at large:
Professional Education
The qualification and certification programmes through which we develop professional competence and instil ethical leadership practices.
Rigorous Credentialing
The assessment and membership framework through which we validate and recognise professional competence and ethical conduct.
Impactful Research
The scholarly and professional inquiry through which we advance the frontier of governance knowledge and professional practice.
Evidence-Based Advocacy
Our engagement with policymakers and regulators on behalf of the governance profession and the public interest.
These four mechanisms are not separate functions — they are integrated and mutually reinforcing. Our research informs our education programmes; our credentialing validates the competencies developed through education; and our advocacy brings evidence from both education and research to bear on policy and regulation. Together, they form a comprehensive ecosystem for advancing the governance profession.
